Ken Reiser was named "2006 Volunteer of the Year" for the Slinger community at the Taste of Slinger Sept. 13 at Scenic View Country Club. The award is given annually since 1993 and Reiser is the first two-time winner.

Over the course of the past year, Reiser initiated and chaired the Slinger Community Park renovation project.  This involved the reconstruction of the bathrooms making them handicap accessible.  It also involved the reconstruction of Community Drive and the new parking lot and basketball court along with several other park improvements.

The total value of the project was in excess of $300,000 and , with Reiser leading the way, donations were received from many of the local nonprofit groups and citizens.  Significant discounts were also given by many area contractors and much of the work was done for free.  The result was a major improvement to Community Park at no cost to Slinger taxpayers.

Reiser saw this project through to completion while being president of the Slinger-Allenton Rotary Club.  He also chairs the Slinger Fire Department Building Expansion Committee.  He has been a volunteer fireman for the past 38 years and was previously the chief for the Allenton Fire Department.  Reiser is also the chairman of the Slinger Police Commission.

The Slinger Advancement Association send nomination papers to the local nonprofit, church and school groups.  Nominations are accepted form anyone who feels they know of a deserving recipient.
