Events Slinger Names Volunteer of the Year Published by: Slinger Express News Dennis Wolf, a lifelong resident of Slinger and strong community volunteer, was named the 2004 Volunteer of the Year. The recognition was presented at last week's Taste of Slinger event at Scenic View Country Club. This award is given annually by the Slinger Advancement Association to a resident who has been nominated by any one of the community's organizations, churches or any individual. Wolf has been a member of the Slinger Jaycees since its inception and has held an office in the organization almost every year. He is currently co-president. He is active in various Jaycee events including the Thanksgiving dinner for seniors, the basketball tournament and the Easter egg hunt. He chairs the Casino Night group that raises funds by running casino games for various groups. There are usually 15 such "nights" each year. Wolf is also the Jaycees contact for Slingerfest, a family oriented community-wide celebration held annually in June. He is the primary person in charge of the "big tent," handles the ordering of beer and soda and helps with set up and take down of the musical stage and bar. The Jaycees donated a shelter building to Fireman's Park. Wolf worked to get the required official approvals and then helped with the construction of the shelter. Besides the Jaycees, Wolf is very involved with his church, St. Peter Catholic Church, and serves on the building and grounds committee. This involves snow removal on weekends before masses, as well as other improvements to the church and school that require volunteer labor. This past summer he was heavily involved with the removal of the old flooring in the church basement in preparation for a new cement floor. Wolf donates a significant amount of time to the Slinger community and the Slinger Advancement Association is proud to name Wolf as its Volunteer of the Year. Several other people were nominated for this honor including Jolynn Mechenich nominated by the Slinger-Allenton Rotary; Kimberly Ramos nominated by St. Peter Church; and Walter Thompson nominated by St. Luke Lutheran Church.
